Staff Accountant

Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Budgets & Analytics, the Staff Accountant must demonstrate versatility in accounting functions. This position will have general duties within accounts receivable, general ledger and payroll. The Staff Accountant will primarily be responsible for overseeing the proper recording of revenue and expenses for the Carolinas region. The Staff Accountant will prepare all invoicing for the Carolinas Region as well as Medicaid Billing for the region. The Staff Accountant will prepare journal entries and reconcile all balance sheet accounts in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for the Carolinas region. The position will also be a reserve to the Vice President of Budgets & Analytics for duties related to budget preparation for grant applications and the organization including the annual budget and budget modifications. Other duties will include Representative Payee ledgers and reporting, annual insurance allocations, internal/external reporting, and special research assignments as directed. The position will require an ability to effectively communicate with senior leadership, external service providers and program personnel on a regular basis. RESPONSIBILITIESAssure timely and accurate invoicing for assigned grant/contracts & Fee-For-Service revenue including but not limited to local, state, and federal customers. Exercising knowledge of the awarding agency's regulations and guidelines when preparing invoices.Submit draw requests through the federal Payment Management System (PMS) for appropriate grants. Prepare monthly financial statements for the Carolinas region for Regional Vice President, Director of Operations and program director review.Review monthly revenue and expenses with Regional Vice Presidents, Directors of Operations and Program Directors as assigned.Prepare quarterly financials for Carolinas Board of Directors.Cash management in organizations' Financial Management System (NetSuite), making sure all cash receipts are applied to customers accurately.Responsible for supporting the payroll department by serving as a back-up in processing payroll on a bi-weekly basis. This will also include training and on-going employee support on the usage of the payroll system for time & attendance, accrual uploads & balances, and system changes & improvements. Ongoing review of specified general ledger entries for appropriateness and discuss issues impacting integrity of financial data with the Vice President of Budgets & Analytics. Prepare accurate reconciliations of assigned balance sheet accounts and record all related activity including, but not limited to intercompany transactions, notes & loans payables, etc.Prepare all annual audit schedule related to Carolinas region activity as well as Carolinas subsidiaries.Prepare grant application budgets as well as working with the VP of Budgets & Analytics to prepare the annual organizational budget and budget modifications/what-if scenarios.Prepare representative payee ledgers and submit annual reconciliation of representative payee receipts.In conjunction with the Development/Fundraising department, reconcile private contributions/donations received on a monthly/quarterly basis.Prepare annual insurance allocation for the organization and monthly maintenance of posting and applicable schedules.Assisting in Annual Preparation of Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreement Renewal (NICRA).Any other directives or projects as assigned by immediate supervisor or designee.Assist the Vice President of Budgets & Analytics as needed.Other duties as assigned. EFFECT ON END RESULT Accurate and complete financial statements for the Carolinas region. Timely collection of receivables resulting in improved cash flow. Improve reliability on financial reporting to ensure 100% accuracy. Ensure that Balance Sheet account ledgers and subsequent schedules are accurately prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) 100% of the time. Provide support to the VP of Budgets & Analytics. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Financial Management or equivalent external work experience. Must have 3-5 years' experience in general ledger accounting. Excellent oral and written communications, analytical and research skills. Well-developed computer skills including competence & proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience with computerized Financial Management Information Systems and Web-based payroll preferred. Preferred knowledge of NetSuite. Excellent organization and computer skills in Microsoft Office Suites. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and exercise good judgment. Ability to have initiative, flexibility and simultaneously meeting multiple demands, while working in a team environment. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
